Benfleet won the toss and Civic Bees were invited to bat

It was an evening of family performances. The Mohan “twins” opened the batting against some swinging quick bowling and the pace was steady. Joe fell for 5 in the 3rd over with the score on just 16 and Matt moved quickly to 29 and retirement. Martin soon followed run out for 4, as Goth decided a suicide run was not in order and stood firm against the cry of yes run ..anyway he made up for it with a couple of memorable lofted 6s, bowled for 16 off 12. Steve followed in the same vein with a beautiful lofted 6 followed by a solid 4 but was c&b for 10 off 6. Tim made his Bee batting debut and tickled a few and survived a village style series of run out attempts running all the way down and back and still making it in, but was soon after run out for 2, leaving Matt to add a further 25 finishing on 53 n.o. from 31 balls and a couple of memorable late 6s.
116-5 from 12

the Bs turn to bowl headed by Matt and Steve. After 2 tight overs the score was just 6 and a sniff of victory was in the cold air. Their opener decided to tee off and retired in the 4th over on 27. Goth had a brave attempt at bowling (0 for 10 from 1)and after 5 overs the score was up with the rate at 45 , the Hughes family decided enough was enough, taking 4 wickets between them in the next 3 overs. Had Dave been captain he may have claimed credit for an inspired change of bowlers, but I would not be so big headed 😀. At 67-4 in the 8th over it looked a tall order for Benfleet. Tim ended up with 2 for 9 in 2 overs, a sharp c & b and a well judged judged yorker bringing the wickets. Martin 2 for 28 in 3 overs, both caught. With their expansive hitting opener back in, Steve kept it tight ending on 0 for 28 from 3 and they needed 19 from the last over. Matt turned up the burners and with a Tim style approach bowled 2 very quick yorkers in consecutive balls getting 2 for 22 and the innings was closed at 98 all out from 11.3
